Sur Quintet consists of five dedicated musicians with different musical backgrounds. Their openness towards music from other cultures and their drive to create exciting new versions of existing songs and traditionals, make the perfect breeding grounds for their new musical adventure. 

The result is a mixture of Traditional Music, Jazz, Indian sounds, African, Arabic, Latin music… in which invoking melodies, intoxicating grooves and intense harmonies produce a personal sound.

Joining the acoustic guitar, the Indian Bansuri flutes, double bass, percussion sounds from many cultures and Suheirs voice, Sur Quintet creates a unique blend of music in which all meanings of "Sur" may be connected.

 

Sur, besides referring to the South in Spanish, has many different meanings. It is also "melody" in Sanskrit and the name of the fundamental tone: the purest note, the one most in tune with the root.

Het Sur Quintet bestaat uit vijf toegewijde muzikanten die muziek uit verschillende continenten samenbrengen. Traditionele liederen, covers en eigen werk krijgen een heel eigen geluid. Het repertoire bevat Arabische muziek, Jazz, Latin, pop en traditionele nummers uit Azië, Zuid-Amerika, Europa en Afrika. Voor alle vijfde muzikanten een inspirerende uitdaging.

Sur’ verwijst naar het Zuiden, maar het heeft meerdere betekenissen: het is ook een feest in het Persisch en een Tibetaans ritueel, en in het Sanskriet betekent het ‘melodie’ en ‘fundamentele toon’.
 

Die rijkdom aan betekenissen wordt gereflecteerd in de gecombineerde klankkleuren van de akoestische gitaar, de Indische bansuri, de prachtige stem van Suheir , contrabas en percussie-instrumenten uit alle werelddelen. Alles tesamen een akoestische, warme en eerlijke sound die vele talen tracht te verenigen.
